Fellow E60'ers,
Two days ago, I am driving my wife's 545i. She always opens the sunroof to vent mode, when parked, allowing the car to get some type of airflow in it. Vent mode being, pushing up on the sunroof switch, opening the back of the sunroof. The sunshade goes back 2 inches as well.
After doing this and returning from a store, I go to close the sunroof by sliding the switch forward. A loud popping noise sounds above my head. POP! I ask her, how long has it been doing that? She says, a couple of days. I said, why didn't you tell me? Well, I guess I didn't think about it when I got home. AAARRRGGHH!
Anyway, I had her sit in the car and open it, close it, while I was outside the car. You can't really see it dragging on anything, but it does seem to drag a bit.
It will also do it if you open the sunroof back into the car and then let it slide forward and up. It makes the loud pop, right before the sunroof is sealed.
Anyone else experiencing this? It just started getting into the upper 90's F, here in Dallas, and her car does park outside during business hours.
She is going to let the dealer have a look in a week.
Thanks for any feedback.
Regards,
Michael

My sunroof makes a horrible noise if I close it after using the vent mode.
It sounds like the whole window breaks. It's scary. Its so loud it make you jump.
I won't use vent anymore because it happens every time.

Mine sounds like metal plates (like from a free weight lifting set) are clanging when I go over big bumps- whats that.

Yep, I have the same problem. I assumed mine was a one-off. I'm interested to see others have the problem. I'm already scheduled for a service in about 10 days including a SW update.

I have the same problem. Does anybody know what the fix is? For me it seems to be worse after leaving it open all day when the temperature is warmer.
