Thumbs up

On my 2001 325i my sunroof close and open and windows close and open would remain functional after you turn the car off for a few moments or until a door was opened.
My 525i the windows remain functional but the sunroof does not. Is this typical? Do I need to reinitialize my sunroof.
thanks,
Martin

Sounds typical to me Martin. My old 545, and all older E60's did not allow the closing of the sunroof once the car was turned off. Many complained about this as, like you, they were used to the function on earlier BMW's. It has been corrected in my 2008 car though I'm not sure if it is an LCI update or if it was corrected sometime earlier...

I just checked my owner's manual. It should remain functional for 15 minutes if key is in position 1 and 1 minute without a key if a door has not been opened.
Reinitialize?

Worth a shot, reinitializing will not hurt it. But keep in mind that the manual is a universal one and sometimes describes features not available on our cars. I know it did not work on my car and having been a member of this forum since early 2004, I have seen many other early owners make the same observation/complaint about the inability to turn off the car and still close the sunroof. But give it a try...

That is an option in other parts of the world but not the US. Adding your location to your profile would help...

kscarrol is correct -- my 2004 car did the same thing as his (and as Martin's is doing) and we all sort of came to the conclusion that it was a bug (or unintentional mistake) in the software code. The fact that some cars (like swallx46's) function differently even though they are the same vintage means to me that it's a country-specific thing or a software version thing.

The more input we get from people here, the more we'll be able to deduce what's going on.

One thing is clear though -- no initialization will fix this problem...
