Hi guys,
I have a 2006 530d, and a few months ago had 20% tints put on, but I'm really not happy with the light band around the rear windows due to the dot-matrix pattern.
I'm thinking about dropping the car into one of the national glass fitters to get the rear window, quarter panel and rear door glass replaced with factory-spec Sun Protection Glass - actual dark glass instead of film.
Has anyone else done this? How much should I expect to pay?
Thanks for any info.
Andy.

Just got a quote back from AutoGlass UK.
Left / Right rear door: £428
Left / Right rear qtr: £255
Rear window: £638
That brings everything to £1321 ... If I booked today, £1178... Still a good bit more than I expected...
Should I try and get the glass from a local supplier separately? Or just live with the film and stop being so picky?

I would be interesting to see if you could find out who manufactors the glass and see what it costs directly. If the cost was more reasonable I would be interested

That is a lot of quids to get rid of air bubbles around the dot matrix, but appearance is a subjective thing. The vehicle being a 2006 model year, do you expect to keep it for a while? What about other upgrades like wheels, aero kit, interior trim, or suspension?
I vote for living with the tint for one full year before abandoning the tint film.

Try rubbing the dot matrix sections with your finger, quite hard pressure. This reduced the light band quite significantly when I had my E60 tinted. Only bit I couldn't reach was the bottom of the rear screen, need to find something to rub it with that wont leave scratches but applies enough pressure.

In saying that, the new F10 is starting to grow on me, so maybe I won't even last a year
