Looks like we were a month apart at dismissining winter.

No update on your Alps trip then. I would've hoped you would be extolling the virtues of your winter tyres in that context.

The roads were so dry and clean I could have used roller skates !!

First time I have driven 900 miles with the car as clean when I arrived as it was when I left home.

Maybe I'll get to play next year, only took 2mm off the rears in 5,500 miles so I should get 4 winters out of them with front to rear swaps.

Is there normally not a last burst of winter at the end march / early april? This is typically the case in Germany (Frankfurt) region. Not so in the UK?

I head off skiing to Austria mid-March every year, so I always wait until after that anyway. Can't wait to get those summer shoes back on though...!

In my part of the UK it might snow for an hour or two in spring, but it is usually too mild for it to be a big problem, melts within hours.

You tend to have the lower temperatures needed to get an accumulation of snow, lucky devil !

Skiing in St Anton 22 March for a week next year so they will have to stay on longer then.

Maybe I will miss some of the traffic I hit between Stuttgart and Bregenz, in fact via France and Switzerland is looking a better option, much less traffic.

2 hours to travel 2 Km's at Bregenz!

Nope, use a tom tom......................and the cost of data downloads on roaming are exhorbitant.

Back to the old days of amusing oneself in a traffic jam by watching the antics of others.

My daughter entertained herself by listening to German Language radio stations, two minutes unintelligable babble followed by "The killers" and her favourite pop songs in English !

Even managed to teach her a bit of German whilst we waited, drew the line at her teaching me Spanish though.
