Why doesn't PDC automatically turn off when I put my gear to P?

Isn't it only logical that while parking a car, one only presses the Park button only when one has *finished* parking?
and therefore shouldn't it automatically turn off?

The PDC beep is just so annoying and the button seems so far away and exhausting to press everytime I park my car..

PDC turns off after a few seconds even if you shift to D, N or P.
If you don't want PDC to turn on, you can go to iDrive and turn it off completely.

I know what you mean since I have PDC in my X5. I'm also got PDC for the 528i which I'll be getting soon. It's even more annoying in crowded areas as bystanders walk by your car and it comes up.

Hmmm.. are you sure it's not few minutes after shifting to D, N or P?

Or is this customizable?

AFAI remember, it is customizable to the extent that you can turn it off/on.

It remains On for maybe 30 secs after you shift from R to D, N or P. I agree that it seems like a lifetime.

Well, it annoys me also. So much so that I just reach over to push the button that shuts it off.

On the other hand, I find it useful when pulling into a spot where I want to get in close. Then I reach over to push the button that turns it on.

Handy thing that toggle button!
