Default stupid comfort access

My 535 comfort access and keyless functions quit working one day, and after hours of reading almost all there is to know about this, I started with the basics.

Changed battery in both remotes, no help.

Replaced the diversity antenna, no help.

Car will not lock or unlock without using the metal key, and will not start without placing the fob in the column.

In typical European fashion, there is no helpful information available from BMW and now it's a bit frustrating.

Has anyone experienced this problem?
Does anyone have any direction on what to try next? I'm stumped!

Went to check fuses just to be sure I didn't overlook anything really stupid and now my active steering is disabled... Wtf?

I had to replace the tail gate harnesses on my wagon with the Sencom ones to restore functionality. Broken wires. Not 100% but believe the sedan has a similar set of wires going thru the trunk hinges.

I'll bet this is where the problem is. I went out and gently pulled on the harness coming out of the right side hinge and now I have 8 lamp failures. Looks like I need to rewire the hinge

Lamp failure was my fault. Put a fuse back in the wrong slot. Ohmed the wires going through the trunk hinge, no broken wires.

Thinking maybe keys need to be reprogrammed as if they just lost their coding randomly, or the actual receiver is not working.

OTC Genysis doesn't access the key programming and shows no faults anywhere in any of the modules it does communicate with.

Ohmed the wires as far as my little fingers could touch them and no problem. Didn't think there would be since those wires don't move...

Cleaned the spots the fingers on the antenna contact and still no better.

I'm down to either paying for a fsm and praying there's actual information in there or taking it to the retards at the dealership and hoping they find a problem and don't rape me.
