Last night I drove the E60 to my school for tennis practice. The car just randomly shut off while driving. I was driving at least 50MPH and thank god no one was behind me. The car started again, and it was fine.

After tennis practice I came back and the ?Battery Warning? started. I turned it off and turned it on again it started right away.

This morning the car had no date/time and iDrive was asking me to set it. At school today the car did not start at all. After about 5 trys it coughed up. I took it home and just got back from the local BMW dealer.

I have a great loaner car a BMW 328i Sport Wagon woooo!

I think it?s the battery when we bought it, the car would not start but we were told the battery was replaced.

Any of you guys experience any of these problems with the E60 before?

I feel like a battery malfunction wouldnt cause the car to turn off while you are driving at 50MPH, seems to be an electronics manfunction if you ask me.

Expedition did that to my wife one time, at 70 MPH- and she managed to get it to the side of the road, and stopped. Put it in park, and it cranked right up. Cranked it again, and went on to work.

A week or two later, I took it to the dealer, and told them about it. They put it on the computer, and found no issues.

It never did that again.

That was the only problem I had with that truck in almost 3 years of owning it.

I said all that to say this- chances are- BMW won't be able to find out why it did that, unless it becomes a repetitive problem.
