I went out to my car this morning (Sep 07 E60 saloon, UK).
It was unlocked and all four windows were down around 5 inches.
I'm as certain as I can be that I locked it yesterday. I never drive around with the windows down so for all four to be open just doesn't make sense.
I am the only person who drives the car and the spare keys were in their usual place and the house was locked up last night.
I checked to see if the windows would open\ close without the key in but they do not.
Has anyone else had this happen before?

It sounds like somehow the unlock button on the key was held down a bit...
That's exactly what I was thinking.

Diagnosis = UWO [Unintended Window Opening]
That happened 2-3 times after I bought my '07 ... "key" in pocket issue was the culprit.
Bought leather covers - problem eliminated!

Is your place haunted? If you are sure it was not a pocket press, I'd call the ghost-busters.

Yep, I had a haunted car windows event soon after I bought my E60. Put it down to shoving the keys in my pocket next to my wallet and accidentally depressing the unlock button for a few seconds (wallet too fat ).
I now walk away from the car with the keys in my hand for the first 30 metres and haven't had a recurrence since.
Put the fat wallet down to expense receipts...not cash

I've had an similar incident where I have found my car with the boot wide open
I must have pressed the button on the key, while putting it away in my pocket
I always double check the lock of the car now, but this is actually annoying
The Volvo cars (I think, maybe it's another brand) have now a light on the key (green/red) indicating whether the car is locked or not:
this should be introduced to all BMW keys!!
