I assuming you are in the UK because I have not a clue where Walsall is... The cost is totally relevant to your locale and of course the work that is needed. When you say they need the car for a week, this inplies to me there is extensive chip damage here and not just a simple sand and re-spray. A shop without a oven would probably need somwhere around 2-3 days to complete. The amount between the two estimates seems to be high. Maybe go for a third one and see where is lands.

Those two estimates are from the same place - 840 is just for the hood/bonnet and 1350 is for hood+bumper.

I agree it'd be appropriate to get a second opinion. Depending on the amount of prep work that needs to be done, those estimates may not be way out of the line.

I've had great results with Dr.Colorchip. The kit cost me $70 and was very easy to use. I was very close to taking it into a body shop as my front bumper looked like salt was sprinkled all over it (Jet Black e60)!

I used Dr. Colorchip also but it seems like after a few washes the paint came out of the chips. Did any of your paint come out of the chips? I was gonna give it another try.

For $70.00 you could walk away with a properly mixed pint of actual paint for you car from a Auto paint store. A qt of liquid polishing compound and a good finish polish/wax and do a much better job. I will have a DIY up by tomorrow. I just finished repairing my car and took photos and will put some instructions together for it. I will most likely do it in word and then save it to a pdf for the upload. Otherwise, we are limited to the number of pictures etc so its risky that they could get out of position as I'm uploading.
