So my 07 steptronic stopped working-only worked in D mode and when switched to DS it just would drive in D mode, up and down shifting manually didnt do anything and the light that lights up on the DS or D -was out on the DS
So took it in-apparently it is some microprocessor that is damanged-part of the whole computer-I am wondering how that could ever happen-I looked on realoem but they do not show any electronics stuff
Its warranty but thinking thats got to be pricey

You mean the "megatronics" module?
what is the megatronics module
I asume is any hardware like that is replaced they will have to reprogram my tranny which I would think is a good thing

My car was in the shop recently for the same thing for the megatronics, that is very expensive, my cost was 2,000 but you can also rebuild it too. It orginally cost about 2,800.00. it even runs smoother than it did before. Good Luck

Ok well after reading this https://5series.net/forums/uploads/11621377..._213_323991.pdf
I understand there are three things this could occur from in likelihood of just having ds mode inoperable
1.D/S/Step switch control module
2.The EGS (electronic tranny control) which is part of the mechatronics modules-(which controls teh rest of the tranny and gives/takes inputs from/to the DME (engine control management.)
Both DME and EGS give and recieve inputs to each other and to latereral acceleration force sensors, brake sensors, wheel spins sensors, accelerator pedal sensors and a bunch of other crap.
Anyway with an operational tranny that simply cannot go to DS most likely cause is the DS switch module. Still waiting to hear back on what my prob was but that is my guess.
If your whole mechatronics thing goes-that is huge.

So again if anyone following turned to be the switch module and entire shifter unit plus shifter switch was changed-parts 1200-
grand total so far in 2 years
110000 of warranty works
