Today, after driving the car hard for about 300 miles in sports mode, the gearbox played up.
When the box tried to shift back from 6 to 5, at about 4000rpm, it felt like a manual changing gears without a clutch. A horrible mechanical noise. This happened three times.
After that I tried to set the ACC and got a fault message and it wouldn't work anymore.
This will be a hard one for the dealer to reproduce, as you'd have to do about 120mph. I'm a little bit worried about it
After having the car parked up for about two hours the ACC worked again.

Anybody with the same experience?

i think it's better to call your dealer and let them know.

I am not sure if they'll dare to reproduce the problem at 120mph. In US, car needs to be sent back to Germany for figuring out the problem at that speed

Hi Flowerfred,
YES I have had the same. Not at 120mph but at any cruising speed and in D. The down change sounded like the car was driving over rumble strips in the road and hiccuped before carrying on. Did not try using ACC.
I could not reproduce the problem at will.
Dealer put in ver 13 software and the problem has not happened again.

I am still strugling though with unusual gear change behaviour and lag/pedal response issues.

FF, if the gearbox played up it *should* have logged a fault that the dealer can at least see very quickly without you having to book the car in, should be no big problem fingers crossed. I think these new fancy auto boxes will always have little quirks from time to time and always get software fixes, same thing definitely happens across other auto/semi-auto/SMG gearbox types...ask any M3 SMG owner

I get the odd down change that feels a bit "odd" but have to say after the 13.1 update have not had any more incidents (touch wood).

Hum, I had version 13.23 installed 2 weeks ago, and I still have the problem.
According to my dealer it's a known issue (another customer has the same problem) and BMW is working on it!

Seems that BMW-engineers have become 'problem solvers' instead of car designers...
