I have only used it to shift back for a corner. When I put it in DS mode I don't notice much difference to be honest.. On the freeway the car will only go to 5th gear so DS on the highway is useless unless you want to burn extra gas... Haven't done any spirited driving yet so when I do I'll try it again. For now I find the D mode perfect for the driving I do (very easy going.. )

I use DS and manual mode whenever I'm driving around town and sometimes to downshift quicker on the highway. I like the feel of the manual mode, but I'm still trying to figure out the best way to shift. It seems that there is a delay in shifting when I'm reving high. I sometimes take my foot off the gas for a split second to "force" it to shift. Is this normal? How do you shift?

question --- i have a 545i and if i use DS compared to D...which one would get better acceleration at a stoplight. Now i know most of you are probably thinking what is wrong with this guy "of course DS would give better acceleration" <_< ...but that maybe not be true since DS is just has a difference in timing of the shifts (unless i'm missing something)

so pretty much...which mode would go to 0 - 60 mph faster??

dennis, dont worry, once your car is run-in you will notice a difference.

i've done 5800 miles in my 530i now and can definitely feel the difference when in DS. throttle response feels much sharper and progress is definitely swift on our back roads. for motorway driving i always use D for a more relaxed ride.
You guys should try the manual mode. You can shift it like a manual by clicking into the next gear just before letting off the gas for a second.
Why are you taking the gas off before shifting ?
I let off the gas for a second so the shift will complete like a manual shift. Otherwise when it shifts it kinda rolls into the next gear.

the DS on the highway is, in my 2,2l powerplant, what i would call MANDATORY!

the power differential provided - or how it bites in when you stomp on it .well without ds on the motorway i would certainly be waiting to pull out of the middle lane more often

and as for the petrol, well, i don't pay for it

I doubt it's imperceptible.
The shift is imperceptible with DS if you time it properly.

Speaking about the Steptronic,
I tried it today again and it's not... When you take gas off, you'll feel that! So you still feel the shift... even though it's the gas off, but there is something you feel. Just as imperceptible like driving in D...

I'm choosing between D and DS acording to driving moods. So, I choose D when i'm just driving and i choose DS when i'm driving a BMW!
