Well -- I went out and tested it again to be certain on my way to the bank. It? does upshift but not at the red line -- a little before. It'll change from 1 -> 2 ~5500 RPM and 2 -> 3 ~6000 RPM. Unfortunately I couldn't test 3 -> 4 since I was already at almost 70 mph on a local road, heh. I didn't want to push it further. There's a nice stretch here with few cars usually. So I guess it's normal "DS" mode for me. That's fine. Occasionally I like to downshift and get that extra umph but don't wan to worry about upshifting or flipping the lever back to the right and left again. It's really exciting to hear the engine rev when accelerating from M1 to M2 to M3 etc.. shifts a lot closer to the red line than in normal mode or normal DS mode even.
Something I'll play with later on the highway ...?

Thanks for all the input guys.
So if I am reading this right some peoples 545's downshift to M3 others to M2 in DS manual mode. Looks like it is a random thing but probably not a fault in the true sense.
I guess I live with it only going to M3 then

Once I knew that it did not shift down in Manual mode I have never not done my own up and down shifting and never conciously tried to see what would happen if I never tried shifting once in M6, M5 or M4. I guess ur saying if I did not do anything it would downshift at least to M3 without my intervention. I'll give it a try just to see what happens. However in my case once I start using manual mode it is my intention to use use it completely. If I am not interested in shifting manually then I use DS, D or Sport D. Why bother using manual just part way unless u want to use all the gears?
