Hello everyone. I have been lurking on this site for several months while I thought about getting my 545. I picked it up 2 weeks ago and have been smiling ever since!!!

My question is for steptronic owners:

When driving in Manual mode, my car automatically shifts to 3rd gear when stopped- not second, as other cars I have owned or driven with steptronic/tiptronic have done. Is this right, or should I have my tranny or software checked out?

Thanks for your help.

I would have it checked out, but the starting in second seems to be DS. Frankly, when driving in Manual mode, I have never let the car downshift for me, so I don't know if goes to M3 or M2. Do you not downshift in manual mode or do you let the car do it for you. If you'd rather let the car do it, just use DS.

Oh, almost forgot my manners, welcome!

You are correct. The car will down shift to the lowest required gear. The 545 has enough torque to start from 3rd. In fact you could drive all day and never have to shift out of 3rd.

I usually drive it in manual and downshift it myself (to second). But the above post is absoultely correct- it has plenty of torque to start off from third with no problems at all. I just wondered what it is supposed to be doing, in case there was a problem with the transmission.

Had the same issue. Checked with my dealer and it should be second.

Was it just a software issue to fix it, or something more serious???

So is everyone who says it should go to second driving a 545? I could see a 530/525 going to second due to the reduced torque.

As a side note I had my software updated about 3 weeks ago so SW does not seam to make a difference.

You're right. Maybe different in the 30 and 45..

I have a 525. When I shift to M1 at a complete stop it revs so fast to second and redlines, that I thought I was actually missing a gear.
