I'm suffering for a noticable clunk just before the transmission goes from 1st to 2nd. I suspect this is a mechanical thing rather than software as I have v18.1

Anyone have an opinion?

Well the slam is really a harsh downshift from 2nd to 1st, not 1st to 2nd. It typically occurs when slowing to a stop, the car is in 2nd and if you don't come to a complete stop and try to accelerate, you get the harsh downshift to 1st. I have 18.0 and have had no slam issues since the upgrade. May be mechanical, but either way it should be checked out.

Off-topic but apropos, how are you doing relative to Katrina. I recalled you being from New Orleans.

Take Care.

Hey Tim C, the throttle lag is all but gone. Being that there is no physical link between the gas peddle and the engine, there is a very, very slight lag, though nothing like earlier software versions.

As for me, doing as well as can be expected. Thanks for asking. The house is gone, but have the important things, family, important papers, baby pictures/photo albums, my 545, my wife's X5 and of course my golf clubs! Actually have our office relocating as we speak, so still employed, which is better than 90%+ of the folks evacuating from New Orleans. The city is in chaos and it will likely be 4-6 months before we are even allowed back into our destroyed homes. Shouldn't be too much worth salvaging at that point. It will be one big moldy mess. As I said, I'm way more fortunate than most, I'm buying a new house in Baton Rouge and just waiting for insurance to kick in. Rebuilding will be another issue. Literally tens of thousands of homes and businesses in New Orleans will have to be torn down. Rebuilding will take 5+ years...

I have some transmission hisitance in steptronic mode, shifting from 2nd to 3rd. The RPM stays high, regardless of me taking my foot of the accelerator. I shift and it still says M2, then it's like a get rear ended when it shifts into 3rd (M3).???

Need help

I guess I will finally get mine in for the emissions recall, and hopefully the throttle response & transmission peculiarities will be cured. Pretty inexcusable in a car in this price range.

Sounds like you were well prepared physically and mentally for Katrina. Best of luck and take care.
