Default Steering Wheel Trim

I noticed a small blister in the corner of my steering wheel trim. The black plastic piece between the wheel and center piece. The paint is separating from the plastic..

Im worried it will spread, peel and generally look like crap. Any ideas on how I can proactively make it stop? Can I replace this trim piece?

Thanks!

Yes it will constantly get worse then look like crap. you could go back to using the same part: 32347841044

But i find this better looking: 32346775300

Your choice. You could also just remove the soft rubber on the plastic completely but personally i dont think that would look too good, but its your car and a lot of people like the way it turns out.

Thanks for the great info. Do you think this is a DIY? Im pretty handy but don't have any of the plastic trim tools. I could order them..

There is no way of stopping it , i started peeling it off and I must say the shiny plastic underneath doesn't look as bad as I thought

Mine was like this when I bought the car in 2012 and it hasn't worsened. I'd considered wrapping it with 3M film, but life got in the way. And since it doesn't affect how the car drives, it's really not that important to me.

I'll let you in on a secret: I haven't washed my car since July. Or was it April? The front bumper is still covered with the dessicated remains of the summer's bug assault. And it's currently sitting with half a winter's road salt and dirt crusted all along the bodywork. I've found that once you let it go, life is so much easier.

Yes! very much something you can do, though you will be unplugging the airbag, unless you can get the airbag to stay out of the way while you work. So you will need to reset codes after you plug it back in. You could disconnect the battery before starting work, that should work too though i haven't tried it that way. Lots of info of how to remove the airbag, if i remember correctly all you need is something thin and strong enough to push a pin behind the steering wheel to push out the airbag. then a couple of torx screws to remove the trim.
