My Ride: BMW 535d M Sport
Over the last month my steering developed a squeeking noise. It happened when the car had been driven for a while and was most noticable at low speeds when turning to park.
I had it serviced yesterday and they replaced the power steering fluid. It's as good as new again now.

I have the same issue with my '05 545 sport that I got a month ago. It seems to only happen at very slow speeds and only when I'm cutting the wheel sharply to the right. The noise comes from the engine compartment and is pretty loud to the point where the kids say "what was that"? I had the car in for service last week and the dealer of course couldn't replicate it. When I have time I need to go back and have them sit in the car while I turn right...

Who has the same nosise as in this video? My car has done this for most of it's life. It does seem to be related to temperature and maybe humidity. But, it is always present.

Sometimes no sound at all, but now it is there again, with +2 celsius and rain.

My car's just been looked at by the dealer and they've identified the steering rack as being at fault. New one has been ordered.
Am actually quite happy with that, as this is the first time the car's been in with the problem, so big thumbs up to dealer for not messing around.

Got my car back from the dealer yesterday with new steering rack.
Feels much better, no vagueness in steering, no squeak or clunks, feels superb, just as it should!

They picked my car up and dropped it off, so asked the driver if it was common. He said that he knew of 2 or 3 racks being replaced this year (so far). Multiply that by, say, 100 dealers in UK and you start to think that this is quite a common fault.

Has any of you guys tried to lubricate some parts in the steering yourself ? I am getting very frustrated with these
*kwiik-kwaak* sounds at low speeds. Must always keep radio on to avoid hearing it
