Had my car in today to have the door gaskets replaced - creaking around turns
I was also having squeaking/creeking sounds comming from my steering wheel
when I turned. First they told me it was the airbag slip ring then said it was not
2 days in and no fix yet. Told me they have to get in touch with BMW and figure
out what is making the noise. No loaner - their policy - you have to buy the car from
them. Anybody else have this problem?

Mine is in the shop right now for this noise. This is my 5th visit to the shop and as usual they replace some parts. The noise comes back after a while. My warranty will be running out in October 08 and I will make sure this time it is fixed. Fortunately they left me a brand new 3 series to drive.

My 2005 545i had a creeking/clicking sound coming from the steering column. They removed and replaced the U-Joint slip shaft. The noise is no longer present.

GL with your issue.

seem common in 5's, Ive heard it in 2 others, but not mine yet. Usually happens at full lock in a parking lot, slow maneuvers.

My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i - no mods. Pretty basic really. I mean it has tires, windows, and a sweet look, what more could a man want? Honestly, I'd like to improve the sound system mildly, and possibly find a worthy engine mod that would increase my BHP by 100 without giving an arm and a leg for. I don't think it's out there, so I'll stay stock and love driving my 530i.

Sorry if this is a hijack, but I have a similar noise myself. Not creaking or cracking, but it almost sounds like when I turn, say when turning into a parking space I hear what sounds like corduroy rubbing together. More annoying than anything... Anyone have ideas what this could be? I also still have CPO warrantee.

I got my car back today.
Faulty lower steering column/slip ring and rack.
Correction: "replaced lower steering column and slip ring and steering rack and completed wheel alignment"

Hopefully this is the last repair for this 04 530.

I haven't noticed a creaking in turns but have noticed a creaking when the steering wheel raises and lowers when turning on/off the ignition. Anyone else have this happen?

I have a groaning noise coming from around my steering as well, usually noticeable after the car has been driven for upwards of an hour. Am told by the dealer that they have a service bulletin from BMW saying that a certain type of oil / lubricant needs to be added/replaced, and have booked me in for next Tuesday.
