While driving at highway speeds on rougher roads (not perfectly smooth, not crazy rough), I get an annoying sound coming from my steering wheel. I have narrowed down the source of the sound but dont know how to fix it...see the below picture, the sound seems to be coming from behind the plastic pieces that control the sound etc....more specifically diagram #4

Does anyone know how to fix this? Or had a similar problem. The sound is not very loud, but annoying. It sounds like something is loose, and just needs tightening.

If you havent had this problem, have you had experience removing these pieces? If so, how do I do this ?

Much appreciated.

I have the same problem, and when you hold down the plastic piece noise goes away. It is annoying, can anyone help fix.

Yep. Exact same problem. My guess is we can replace those plastic pieces....before i go that route, I would like to see if anyone has ever removed those pieces...then maybe we can tighten or add something to prevent the noise...someone please help. Took me forever to find the source of the noise.

My wife just bought a used 2007.

I was taking a service guy for a ride to ask about a noise from the front of the car (turned out to be normal noise for runflat tires). He pointed out that the buttons on the steering wheel were buzzing. He said it is a common problem and had us bring it in to be replaced under warranty. He said the buttons wear out.

I had a squeeky steering wheel, but mainly at low speeds when turning a fair bit. The dealer put some sort of additive in the power steering reservoir/unit and its gone. Although, based on how you've described it probably a different squeek.

They said mine wasn't covered by warranty but did it as goodwill.

Good to hear. Cost? Or was yours covered under warranty. Thanks much.
