Got my car back from aux input install--working great--highly recommended. That's the good news.

Bad news is on the highway I noticed that my steering wheel is off center, to the left, by 5 - 10 degrees. Car drives straight, doesn't pull in either direction, just that the steering wheel is off center. I seem to recall others had this problem after new CIP--they upgraded mine to 17.01. Made an appointment. Is this just a matter of resetting the AS? Is it just reinstalling the software?

The AS just needs to be reset. But before you make an appointment try this:
Start the car. turn steering wheel clockwise to full lock then anticlockwise to full lock then back to center and turn off the car. The start the car and test.

I thought it was turn left all the way first, and then turn right all the way, and then back to the center; then restart car.

Either way try both methods...

They need to reset AS using the programmer -- I don't think the user method corrects the off-center steering wheel condition...

Is this a relatively quick procedure (i.e., can they do it while I wait) or is it like updating the software (which could "only" take a few hours, or possible a lot longer if problems)?

I think it's pretty quick to do the reset. I think it's supposed to be done routinely when software updates are performed...

Got mine done in 15 minutes. Service knew they screwed up and new it was the reset, not another problem. Had arranged ahead of time to do just this one thing, called when I left office, called again at 15 minutes out to have tech stand by and he was. jump out of car, he had equipment ready and I went in to talk to SA. Few minutes there and then tech walked in and said done.

They may try to say they don'y know whats wrong and try to make it lomger but you should make clear it was right when u went in and wrong when u came out of software upgrade. It IS the reset u need.

Thanks for the info--I'm going to tell them I just want to wait while they reset the AS.

Exactly the same thing happened to me. I had my 545i software upgraded to version 17.?? and the steering wheel is off. It's in about 12:30 position when driving straight. I'm going back tomorrow morning. It's supposed to take 20 minutes to reset.
