Does anyone know how to reinitialize the steering column memory? I can still move it in all directions so I know that it's not the actuator/motor but it no longer moves up and out of the way when I turn off the engine. The seat memory still works with both factory keys. Do I have to go to the stealership to get it coded or something? I hope there's a way to reset it like we can reset the moonroof and windows. Thanks.

I just had my battery replaced at the dealer, and along with the steering column, they had to reinitialize several other things such as the steering angle sensor, sunroof, windows . I would take it in to ensure you get everything squared away. Especially if you replaced your battery with something different then what it came with. Mine had to be reprogrammed to accept a 90A AGM.

Did you inadvertently hit the button that disables the auto exit feature? That would explain your problem.

Where is that button? How do I turn it back on?

It's outlined in the manual. I forget the exact steps but something like:
  • turn on engine
  • move steering wheel all the way up
  • then all the way down
  • turn off engine
  • done

This particular section in the iDrive controls the seat memory behavior when opening the door or unlocking from a remote. I tried and deactivated it and then reset but no dice! Thanks anyway.

The manual only tells you how to set the memory and all the settings can be done without having the engine running. No dice here either. The seats move but the steering columns does not. next! Anyone? Bueller? This is driving me crazy! ugh!

Ok, Maybe you should try what Neoe60 mentioned. I will try it as well. It didn't work for me since a while ago. I thought it's because the option was not available for me.
