Good Morning All: I have a steering malfulction message (Please see attached image) comes on after I start driving. I just replaced the front rotors and few other things. The message will come on like every other time I start the car. Do I need power steering fluid? Appreciate all your help as usual.

try the basic fix:

While stopped, turn the wheel all the way to the left, then all the way to the right. That reset the steering sensor for me when I put in the sport wheel I got. You may have similar results.

yes, 95% chance your are low in power steering fluid. Your local BMW carries it. I also found it locally at Napa.

Pentosin CHS11S fluid.

Your power steering reservoir has a dip stick. Mine was literally dry last week when I got the same warning.

This "power steering fluid" is also used for ARS (active roll stabilization, dynamic drive) if you have it, so plenty of opportunity for leaks. Mine was below dipstick shortly after I bought the car CPO with 2 years on the clock--was getting the steering errors on cold startup. Have needed to top it off once again about a yr ago (6 years on the clock) after running it at the track--putting lots of stress on the ARS.

replacement is CHF-11S (CHF = central hydraulic fluid)

Did you have actual leak or any other defects with ARS?

I had a similar problem - adding some power steering fluid fixed it immediately.
