Can anyone describe the location of the Steering fluid reservoir?

Depends on your engine...

On a 545 is it circled in attached picture. On a 530 it is on the opposite side.

My Ride: 2005 BMW 545i, Titanium Silver. Bridgestone 760s on Weds Bavaria II 18" wheels, standard sport pack size. Sport, AT. Latest job - NGK Iridium IX plugs installed.

Check the steering fluid level, that's easy enough to do, but in my case messages on the Active steering Malfunction and the Dynamic Drive Malfunction messages were related to water in the battery compartment. It only takes a minute to check, just open the trunk and remove a couple of plastic fasteners.
