Over the past few months, I've noticed a 'clunk' or a 'pop' noise come from the steering column area when I go over a bump or a pothole...It has become increasingly more sensitive to these type of road imperfections lately and thus I am hearing the noise more often now. I have an 05 545 6 speed with active steering...Has anyone had this happen to them?

I had a very light steering clunk that could be heard and felt during cornering.

BMW replaced the steering spindle & it is now perfect.

Mine had a similar problem, clicking could be felt through steering wheel on slow corners, especially on bumpy surface. On 2nd attempt the dealer fixed it, they said it was a known problem, they had to lubricatate something in the steering column.
It was fine for a few weeks, but now it squeaks!
Going back next week..

Got my car back today. they didn't fix the steering wheel clunk yet.
The spare part isn't available and the car must go back next week.

But they solved another problem:

In the last couple weeks i had some error messages in several functions, radio malfunction, interior lights and the worst external lights faillure when driving at night.

The car remained there for 3 days (got a E39 530d replace) and they were running several computer tests to the individual control systems computers.
In the first 2 days nothing, not even error codes reported in the computers memory, but yesterday they got the malfuction when the computer was connected to the car. They didn't had a clue.... but finally someone remembered about the battery and they concluded that the neutral battery cable was a little loose and produced computer malfuction and the messages will appear....and the faillures.

I hope it wil be solved .... <_<

I have a pronounced 'ding' from the front suspension when I go over certain low road humps. Has only happened a couple of times so still trying to figure out a pattern.
