Just joined the site and just bought a 2004 530i (and love it!), and this is my 1st post.

Whenever the outside temperature is hot, I get intermittent static through my music (doesn't matter if its radio or CD), and the static goes in bursts of 4 seconds, and about 5 or 6 times in a row of the bursts of static, then normal again.

I've narrowed the problem down to what I think is the shark fin getting hot and causing this.

During the static, it sounds as if the antenna is searching for some kind of signal or something. Very annoying.

What is the problem??

Thanks!

and mebbe check or an FM modulator that's always connected from a previous owner. Check if there's an aftermarket HID system on the car. Check all your wiring under the hood and cabin. Pop open your trunk and see for any loose fiber optic connections.

Nope, it happens only when the car has been in the hot sun for a while.

No, nothing aftermarket. What is HID and where would I find it? Thanks for the tips. I'll check the wiring but I'm guessing its gonna be very hard to find....

I have an intermittent static problem that seems to have nothing to do with hot weather. I had Verizon install a Motorola HF1000 bluetooth kit, but I think static occurred before the bluetooth was installed. I thought it was just a crappy radio.
