weird thing has occured about 3 times over the last couple weeks. if i'm sitting at a light, and i start to accelerate normally, the engine bogs down and the traction control light flashes, for maybe a second or two. then the engine goes to full power again. i guess the car thinks it's losing traction.
every time this occured, the pavement was dry and clean.
what would cause this?
by the way, car is a 06 550i auto.

tires are new. i wonder if maybe i'm just hitting the throttle too quick.
It happened to me on stock wheels as well, but recently after installing the sprint booster, and running 22" rims, I never seen the traction control kick in so many times. Of course its the heavy foot

Yes, this is a terrible problem with BMW V8's especially when you turn off DTC. Sometimes there will be an annoying odor of rubber burning and a loud squeeling sound. It's very frightening.

I don't have that. The one place where my traction/skid control light goes off like a Christmas tree is in the twisties when I am push the car to its absolutely max in M2 or M3 (I have a 2009 550i Sport with Steptronic).
I rarely see the light go off when I am just accelerating. And yes, I have a lead foot when it comes to acceleration (although not so much when it comes to cruising speed on heavily patrolled stretches of highway) and back roads.

Disable the system by pressing and holding the DSC button for around 3 seconds, this disables the system fully. Do the same test you mention above again and see what happens, if you see smoke coming from the tyres and the RPM's go nuts your mashing the gas too hard, if not and the same almost stalling feeling happens again maybe you have another problem
