I'm new to this board, but I have a question. I've done a search and have seen people talk about getting the "comfort seats". What are they?

I've seen the buying sheet and the ONLY choices I see for the 2008 E60 are the "standard" seats, and the optional 20-way "multi-contour" seats.

What are these "comfort seats" people are talking about???

Thanks,

530xda 06-22-2007 02:14 AM

never heard about the seats youre mentioning but its probably the comfort seats since they are 20-way.
many different names on some parts, depends on what country youre from. :)

They are the same. Comfort seats are what they are called in EU atleast..

I'm from the US, so these seats might not even be offered. Anyway, a salesperson gave me a E60 brochure like this one.

http://jon.bimmerfest.com/bulletins/...60brochure.pdf

(It's describes the "Interior Seating" on page 15.)

I've seen people here talk about "ventilated seats" too, but no mention of that either. Very confused here.

Thanks for your reply.

Comfort seats are an option here in Canada as well , I have them and they are great

Rudy 06-22-2007 07:48 AM

Comfort Seats = Multi-Contour Seats (I think BMW stopped calling them Comfort Seats recently -- maybe because it implied that the other seats weren't comfortable?)

Ventilated seats are an option but they don't show up on the option list in the USA (I don't know about other countries but I think they do show up in most others...) If you want ventilated seats in the USA, you have to have the dealer look at the "Priority One" options. (Also, in order to get the ventilated seats, you need to add Nasca leather.)

LowOrbit 06-22-2007 07:49 AM

Comfort seats are the same as multi-contour seats.

They changed the name to multi-contour after it became included in the sports package in the U.S., probably because "comfort" didn't sound very sporty. Almost all forum members prefer these seats.

aybeesea 06-22-2007 08:10 AM

Just to confirm the thread title, there are also sports seats, standard in UK AFAIK with the MSport option...

Oh, and I notice on the standard 550i in the US there are 10-way seats offered - whatever they are...

Thanks for all the replys. I definitely get the Multi-Contour seats now. :)

I just talked to my local salesperson(he kinda sounded like he didn't want to admit it), but he said that the "ventilated seats" were a factory option. He also said that it would $3800. That's a lot of GREEN, don't you think?

Well the comfort seats aren't exactly free.

I'm sorry, I didn't make my point very well.

The Multi-Contour seats are a $1200 stand-alone option. I think an extra $2600 just to make them(or any seat) ventilated is a little high.

They are on the 550. Its the ventilated option that requires Nasca leather, that is exorbitant.

The US website shows 10-way seats as standard on the 550i.

Btw ABC, how did you get a 5 year 100.000 km garantee?

Not with the tuned 337 hp 687Nm engine??

But worth every penny, in my opinion.

Not a guarantee. Service and Maintenance included.

Here, its an option you can add at time of purchase. The UK guarantee is 3 years/60,000 miles.

Final questions; Does anyone here have the ventilated seats? Can you give me a quick review?

thanks,

If you're planning on staying around for a while, why not take a moment to pop your location into your profile?

Hi Argent, I do have the the ventilated "comfort" seats. It actually depends on your location and if the weather is really hot or not. It is quite efficient if the inside temprature of the car is high. When you operate it its starts at fan level three for sometime then goes down to level two and so on.
As for the price, it seems pretty high, check if this price includes the active seats. This makes the seat cushioning moves simultanously to relax the thigh muscles.
My reco is "comfort"seats is a must  , if you drive long distances then go for ventilation/active seats. otherwise no need I guess.

hope this was helpful.

The 20 wat multi contour seats are the new standard sports seat for the 550, the original e60 sport seat was a butt buster, 545 model. This is a great option although I understand that the standard e60 seats are quite good. Good luck what ever you decide.

But the standard 550i strangely comes with 10-way "ordinary" seats.

Thank you. I went ahead today and ordered a 535xi with the "Multi-Contour" seats(part of the SP). Believe it or not, my dealer didn't have one E60 with these seats on the lot. I'm going on blind faith, and the advice of the good people of this forum.

Lots. Sport seats have deeper bolsters on the the sides to keep you from sliding around, adjustable thigh supports, adjustable lumbar supports, and they are firmer than the standard seats. I had them on on my last two 5 ers and I loved them. Some people were critical of them as being too firm. They were on the firm side initially but with time they softened up as they broke in. When broken in they were wonderful.

ipp 06-24-2007 03:24 AM

If Comfort Seats are included in the US Sport package, then Sport seats aren't available anymore?

I believe that they can be special ordered.

lastbimmerfan 06-26-2007 02:56 AM

In Europe the sport package goes with the sport seats not comfort seats.

One effective way of recognizing comfort seats is to look at the back part of the seat, if it as the possibility to adjust the upper half so it can fit the correct curvature of your back them it's "comfort seats".

I do have the comfort seats in my 530d (and also ordered to my 2008 535d) and they make all the difference

c7xlg 06-26-2007 03:18 AM

I had sport seats in my E39 and found them very comfortable. BUt I have comfort seats in my 'new' E60 550i. They are brilliant!

You can pump up the side bolsters to grip you when you are pushing on, or have them softer for when you are just cruising. I love the way you and also adjust the upper portion of the seat, and the headrest to fit you perfectly.

They really are very very good!

At least in Europe you won't get lumbar support as standard with sport seats. It's extra.
