Standard audio (euro) to HIFI possible?

Hi,
I've got the standard stereo (6-speakers, I guess - not avaiable in the US) on my euro E60, and I'd like som more bass and better trebble. Sound seems to come from up in the air (headphone-effect) rather than from the front - even when using fade to move the sound to the front speakers.
I wonder what the difference is, in parts, between standard and HIFI. Is the subs under the seat retrofittable? Is it possible to just swap out the speakers for improved sound? I've seens that they have different part numbers and price - maybe this would be a quick fix for better sound? How about the amp?

Welcome aboard Atta.
The HiFi has 10 speakers. The extra onesare 2 tweeters in front doors and an extra pair intergrated with the rear parcel shelf ones. I believe there is also an amplifier in the boot to the left hand side.
The difference between the 2 is amazing.

Hm. Seems you may be right here. Then my question is: Is there anything to gain by swapping out just the speaker elemets from standard to HIFI, og even Logic 7? They all have different part numbers, with increasing price, so unless theyre just charging a premium because it's a higher end stereo they might be made of different material, and with better sound. That would be a nice way to upgrade the sound without going aftermarked. I noticed the subs for the L7 was WAY more expencive...

like Merv said the HiFi upgrade is a lot better than the std euro package.
like you, in my E60 SE i had the std. package and enquired many times with BMW about the availability of a retrofit package for the HiFi but was told none are available or are likely to be available anytime soon. you might want to try some independent ICE specialists to get quotes for speaker/amp upgrades.
in the end i just replaced the car to get the hifi package. (only joking, i did replace the car but only because i was going to anyway, i just made sure i added the HiFi option this time round).
