My Ride: Awaiting a Saphire Black 520d SE, Black High-Gloss Trim, Black Fusion Upholstery, Hi-Fi Stereo, DAB Radio, USB/Ipod Adaptor. ETA Nov 21st 2007
Default

Currently awaiting delivery of my 520d, eta early December - we've had three similar cars delivered to colleagues at work in the recent week, one 520d and two 525d, all of which appeared to get advanced aircon fitted as standard - we've checked the orders placed with the fleet company, and neither specificed advanced aircon - so oddness. Emails exchanged with the fleet company today (subsidiary of BMW) revealed nothing, they had no idea and confirmed it had not been ordered as an option - and they've said they'll pass on the enquiry to the dealership.

Anyone heard of anything similar - can't see any indication that the spec has changed on the website. Just hoping I'm so lucky

Got my 520d SE two weeks ago, delivered with standard air-con. In my opinion the standard aircon controls are the worst part of the car, they belong on a Ford Focus, quality is low, and it is fidley to find a comfortable temperature.

However, the rest of the car is superb. Best I've ever driven. Fuel consumption has been good for a large car, acheiving 630 miles, 630 miles, and 680 miles, on the first three tanks of fuel, each costing ?65. These figures have been acheived whilst pushing reasonably hard, including red-lining the rev counter a couple of times. Spookily quiet at 100mph.

And what's wrong with a Ford? The quickclear front windscreen leaves BMW for dust...

You mean the horrible zig zag wire thing? I was in a friend's Focus and said "what's all those wires in your windscreen?". Maybe some people can't see them ... but I could, and no way could I drive a car with those wires in there.

Not that it will matter for long, Ford will go bankrupt any day now with the $billions they are in debt. Enron #2 ...

Strangely enough I tend to focus on the road rather than at the windscreen...

525d comes with advanced AC as standard, 520d doesn't. If you want it, you have to pay the extra.

I can still see the lines when I focus on the road... they appear like a blurry grey mesh, but I would probably get used to it and stop noticing them after 20 minutes if I owned one!

I have to agree with Russ on this. Whenever I am in a Ford with quick clear screen I end up looking at the wires.

I drove a Mondeo for 3 months and it drove me nuts - I had to try hard to look through the screen.

There must be plenty of people who are not distracted by the wires, but I am not one of them!

I would not buy a car with a quick clear screen regardless of make.

Regards,

Those things really drive me nuts. I regularly end up in rented Ford Focus's on business trips, and those blooming wires make my eyes go funny. They also really screw with my portable Garmin's ability to receive sat signals
