We have smow covered roads here and as an old road rallye driver (BMW 2002), I like to work with my parking brake in turns (once in a while and if nobody else is around, of course...).
Found out that it won't work with the SMG anymore. The car stalls every time when I am sideways, even when I am in 2nd or 3rd.
Oh well, there is much other fun to have with my car.

I am surprised to hear that the car stalled. Two reasons:

I would think that SMG would downshift / disengage to prevent stalling, as it does when you come to a stop; and

I have been having some fun driving in the snow as well. I do not have you rally eperience, nor do I use the e brake, but i have been getting sideways in my turns, steering with the throttle. i have had some gear changes resulting from rapid rpm drops after wheels spins, but nothing close to a stall.

I'm with Rob. I did a bunch of parking brake spins, etc. over the weekend and didn't stall once. The car was pretty fun (and balanced) doing a constant doughnut around and around and around. I think I made my passenger sick!

Pulling the hand brake? Did you lock the rear wheels by pulling the hand brake? is that why you stalled the engine?

Yep, thats the idea. You pull it very briefly to make the rear wheels loose side traction, which put the rear end of the car sideways. You then control the turn via the throttle.

I pulled only for a very short time and the car stalled.
The worst thing is that the servo assist for the active steering goes away. I could not turn my steering wheel at al.

HAHAHAH noooooooooooooooo, well you said most... I guess so then... I've driven like ummm 100miles total or so in New York!!! But no sign of snow.

Wait wait!!! Correction!!! I do drive in snow! when I go snowboarding up in Tahoe and Big Bear Mtn... but I never tried pulling the hand brake in snow because if theres snow then I usually have chains on.

Ya pulling it briefly... so I guess that means you locked the rear wheels right? I guess SMG isnt smart to apply the clutch when you do that?
