Well, I have noticed recently that my brakes squeel when i'm backing up, haven't really noticed while moving forward. It seems the more pressure i apply, the less they squeel. Also, I did notice that i have rust on the rear rotors, is that common for a BMW with 19k on it?

I thought the squeeling might be due to brake dust and recently had the car washed. The squeeling went away for a few days, but has returned. Do you think i should have the brakes checked or have the pads and rotors replaced. I really hate seeing rust on them in an form.

Also, when changing wheels, how is the tire pressure monitor affected? Is there a mechanism to attach to the new wheels or do the wheels have anything to do with it? Thanks fellas! =)

Nothing to attach. Just reset the FTM. FTM monitors the difference in speed between the wheels. When one wheel rotates about 12% faster than the others the warning will sound.

my is a 2004 e60 and tire pressure sencer is on the car not the wheel but I think the new models is on the wheel, better check with bm dealer.

about the rust I have it all the time if I leave it for a few days and not drive the car but the you drive it, the rust gose away. also my brakes have mice in them too, I am think changing them for EBC greenstuff pad & rotors. Itis very common for the OEM pad to have mice in them

The brake squeal you're describing sounds like the brake pad wear sensor issue. It's very common and the dealer should be able to take care of it under a service bulletin.

zen is correct that FTM on a 2004 car is not dependent on the wheels or tires. The system shares the rotational sensors with the ABS/DSC systems. The newer cars (2006 I think?) have individual pressure sensors mounted in each wheel...

Rudy...even my 2006 model, a car I bought Jan 2006, have the break squeel problem. been to the dealership for 2 visits, no fix yet....

It's more comon than you think, and they did not fix the issue with the new design.

How much more common than "very common" can it be? When my car was in for the issue, I was told by my tech that they have a new style wear sensor that is supposed to solve the problem but the new sensors were on back-order so my problem hasn't been resolved yet and I don't have first-hand experience with how well the new sensors work. It sounds to me like the door seal issue. They redesigned the seals but they still creak after a short time.

Anyway, the fact that they redesigned the sensor, coupled with the fact that the new sensors were on back-order a few months ago is why I said the problem is very common.

For the rust, use "antiseize." It is sold in most auto supply stores. It is a lubricant that prevents future rust. It seemed to work very well.

I recently put it on my 2007 530i when rust started to form after 2 months. It worked well.
