Same problem with mine. 07/04. I am taking my car in for service due to faulty emblem on the airbag. Apparantly the air bag will be replaced.
I will have my steering checked at this time also.

There have been several squeeking -themes discussed here, but has anybody experienced
a tiny squeeky noice coming somewhere from the steering/steering wheel at low speeds when turning
the steering wheel, both directions ?

For me it came occasionally during the warranty time -I mentioned about it but wasn't there in inspection- but now when warranty is expired, it has of course been there more often. Don't know yet what to do with it... Not too bad but can hear it. Almost like a too dry sealing somewhere down/inside there. No active steering whatsover, just normal stuff.

I had that problem on my 05 545. When they installed the new engine in January they also changed the stearing column. They said the bearing caused the problem. I will try to include a picture with the mechanic in the engine compartment. the new stearing column is balanced on the fender by his his head.

I've had a very nasty random sqeeking noise (not clicking) when I was turning at very low speed or while stationary.

I was a bit scared and took my car to dealer. In 5 minute, they discovered the source, some metal plate under front wheel axis was not bolted ok, or it loosed a screw.

They solved the sqeek in 10 minutes. I was scared about some very bad stuff.

My car has just come back from a brake service. I mentioned the low-speed creaking steering. They've lubricated something (?) under a gator at the bottom of the rack. Asked me to see if this worked once it worked in properly.

Watch this space (still creaking at the moment!)...

My steering rubbed/creaked from upper steering column. The dealer 'lubricated' a felt washer it & it was OK for a while. To be honest I wasn't happy about it, as where does it say 'lubricate' streeing washer as part of regular maintenence & also when the warranty expires it will become my problem & not theirs. But 'luckily' it is now far worse so will need a proper fix. After a short journey it sounds as if there is a dentist drilling in the dashboard when I turn.
So back to the dealers again, I'm not comfortable with the fact that they know my name when I walk in. As nice as the dealership is, a visit should be a rare occasion, not a regular trip!!. I may as well move in.

Took my '04 525i in complaining of a squeek when turning the steering wheel left or right. They decided it was Dry Bushings and Bearing in steering column when sterring column is rotated and have ordered a replacement (32 30 6 770 713), will see if that fixes it.
