There have been several squeeking -themes discussed here, but has anybody experienced
a tiny squeeky noice coming somewhere from the steering/steering wheel at low speeds when turning
the steering wheel, both directions ?

For me it came occasionally during the warranty time -I mentioned about it but wasn't there in inspection- but now when warranty is expired, it has of course been there more often. Don't know yet what to do with it... Not too bad but can hear it. Almost like a too dry sealing somewhere down/inside there. No active steering whatsover, just normal stuff.

I have a July 06 build 530xi and I've notcied the same problem in the last few weeks. Mine is due for service in May and I plan to add it to the list of things to be checked into. It doesn't happen all the time, so we'll see.

I have been back to dealer twice with same problem, still not resolved. Mine seems to get worse after a long journey, when parts & fluids are no doubt warmed up. 1st time they changer some slip rings in upper mechanism, 2nd time changed steering shaft & associated bearings. Next time it will be steering rack according to service desk. Which reminds me, i'd better book it in for yet another 3 days off the road !

I hear this from time to time. Especially low speed, low outside noise, but even on the highway when all is quiet.

My E60 is in service right now..one of my complaints was "noise from steering wheel at low speeds". I just spoke with my SA..he stated they replaced my steering rack.

They also replaced my passenger airbag for my "passenger restraint fault" error.

I'm not sure what other fixes they have done so far but I did have an extensive list of issues I needed resolved before my warranty expires...seems they are replacing parts at will. I'll post the final fixes when I get the car back.

Mine has just been in for service with this fault listed.

They have lubricated one of the bushes in the steering column, hopefully it will do the trick.

It seems to be a known fault according to the SA
