Angry

:'(
During wet/cold weather when I have been driving for a while and turn my steering wheel
it makes this (low frequenz) squeecking sound.
This is very irritating, what can be the problem?

Andreas.

Coil Spring Adapter could be the culprit.

Thanks,
Sinse the squeaking sound is nearby the steering wheel (inside the car) I
wonder about the origin of the problem, if it could be something else?
you see.. when I turn the steering wheel, I hear a whiny squeak. Not very loud,
and the kind of noise you might expect two pieces of rubber-ish material.
I?ve read (in this forum) that something on the steering column might need a bit
of lubrication, or that I have to change a plastic rubber on the steering wheel.
Could that be the problem? And is it expensive to fix? U see.. my warranty
went out last september!

I just had the whole steering column replaced by my dealer under warranty for the same reason.
They said it will also go away for a while with a new slip ring behind the steering wheel, but the only proper way is to do the steering column completely.

That's what they said and what they did. As it didn't cost me anything, I was ok with that and the problem is gone.

I've been hearing this "clunk" sound whenever I make a turn that is 45 degrees or more. It's not loud, but it can get annoying. At first I thought it was the stuff in my trunk shifting around, but I think its coming from the steering wheel. any of you guys know what the problem may be?

Interesting. I think I have that same sound. It's a little hum, like "hoooo," not high pitched but just a rubbing. The dealer said could not duplicate.

Is it the noise in this video?

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=399642

I am trying to find out who has had this and how it was fixed since every time I take it in they say can not duplicate.

Thanks,
Tom

Try lots of low speed right angle turns. This should highlight the problem. After lubrication then slip ring change, BMW eventually changed column.

I had identical thing happen 1.5 yearss ago, dealer changed the steering rack as it was deffective, noise never came back.
happened when I was turning right or left but also at around 45 degrees.
