I started hearing some squeakin noises a couple months ago (when it started getting really cold outside) when I turned the wheel backing out of my garage. Now I'm starting to hear an awful squeakin/rubbin noise in my steering column after I take the key out of the ignition and the steering wheel goes up.
Has anyone encountered this same issue? Does anyone know what's causing it and if so, how did you fix it?
Thanks!

very! I made the mistake and sprayed WD-40 in the steering column and now my car smells like grease. It also did not work at all.

I'm hearing a minor squeak when turning but only in one direction. I have no idea of the source right now. It's pretty low so I don't really hear it unless I have the music off.

My 528 08 started to present a weird noise from the steering wheel when I adjusted it to my size, and even putting it back to the original position still hearing that that noise. Normally it happens when turning left or right and don't have a clue what could that be. Any ideas?

I have that too and it also started a couple of months ago during a very cold spell. Last time I brought the car in I asked about it and the technician said it was a bushing in there that needs to be changed but it's not a serious problem and after checking that it was not covered by CPO he advised it would cost too much and was not worth it so I left it but you're right, it is annoying as hell and my car is a 2006 and still hope to have quite a few years.

I had this issue and it was resolved by my local dealer under warranty by replacement of the coil spring cartridge in the steering head. Part no 1 at the link below
