My clutch pedal makes an annoying "Squeaky" noise when i step on it. Can this quickly be fixed with WD40 or should i just bring it to the dealer?

There is a bushing somewhere back there that you can replace. It's a cheap part....there is a DIY somewhere on the M3 forum. M3Forum.COM

I had the dealer fix it under warranty. I think they just lubricated the bushing.

I've complained everytime it goes in. Feels like a cheap plastic part that they just lubed and wait for it to happen again. I'm more concerned of my clutch wear. Current one (the second) has 12k and it releases all the way at the top. My car only has 27k on it and it'll soon be in it's third clutch. I just hope it goes out before end of April 2010 because that's when my warranty ends. I've driven manual trannies my whole life- that's all I will own and I have 4 right now. NEVER have I worn out a clutch even at 100k miles-

This is a real defect.

My old 06 550 suffered from that clutch pedal squeak, but it only made itself heard on a warm/hot day (> 75 degrees F). My dealer addressed the issue by re-lubing the linkage, but after 2 months, it came back and I just lived with it and prayed it was a cold day outside. I wouldn't worry about your clutch wearing out ... the clutch pedal and the clutch itself are two separate entities. Despite the squeaking you're getting, the noise won't do a thing to affect the operation of the actual clutch. You can choose to re-lube the linkage yourself, but keep in mind that you'd have to remove the plastic trim piece under the dash to get to the area above the clutch pedal. PITA when I attempted it myself a few years ago.

Well its definitely not a clutch wear problem because i just got my clutch replaced under warranty 2 months ago. Its just an annoying squeak from the pedal movement itself. I live in NY and its about 60 to 70 degrees on average right now.

I'll take your advice and just bring it to the dealer. But i hope it doesn't keep reoccurring like in your case.

I can't believe both you guys needed to have your clutches replaced in the first few years. I wonder if these are just crappy clutches, or if in a car with as much torque as in your 550's, there's no way around it.

Unless you're doing burnouts at every stoplight. =)

Burnouts aren't any fun because BMW removed the LSD from all but M cars. A 360hp manual tranny "sport" sedan without LSD is ridiculous. At least offer one for a $1k upgrade or something BMW!

So no- no burnouts at all. And as I've said I've driven nothing but manuals my whole life, many with more than 360hp and never wore one out. But I hear this is a pretty big issue- I just hope the replacement isn't also a problem...

I bought my E60 550i used with 20,000 miles... when it was delivered to me, the smell of burned clutch was very strong. So i bought to the dealer and they replaced it under warranty. I have put about 3K miles on the car since... no problem except for that annoying squeak from the clutch pedal.
