Thanks for your time~

Some history about my car , I bought it with 42k , it now has a 140k.

The problem is a squeaking sound when you turn the steering wheel from left to right. It only occurs from a cold start and usually lasts for about ten minutes of driving...
Is it possible the steering rack needs to have some grease applied ?

If you had this problem please chime in!

thanks again~

what is the condition of the engine drive belt? If the belt is [new] good, then I'd check the PS pump. Drop the belt, and spin the PS pulley. If you hear any noises, then replace the PS pump.

engine belt , as in the timing belt?

my power steering is leaking but not a serious issue as of yet...

I will check the ps belt today . Is it pretty difficult to access the belt and pulley?

This same thing happened on my old magnum, Chrysler claimed it was normal and it never caused any problems over approx 75,000km (for what it's worth)

ps... Chrysler said it was just thick fluid (cause of sub-zero temp) and I was hearing the pump or gears working.

this is a fairly common issue here in the UK on both E60 and E61 cause by the steering fluid being too viscous (thick). The treatment here by BMW UK is to raise the temp of the oil to 70c then drain it off and replace it with oil from the BMW Mini range - squeek then gone!
