My Ride: 2008 550i Sport
![Default](https://5series.net/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif)
Hi all, my wife recently commented on the sluggish throttle response from my 550i while in normal auto drive mode. I took this as an opportunity to consider an upgrade for a Sprint Booster. My concern however is that I've noticed my throttle response changes based on the which shift mode is being used. Meaning normal DRIVE mode and the throttle response is the typical sluggish we all comment about. But when I change to SPORT shift mode (M/S), the throttle response improves and is actually quite enjoyable. I have the 2008+ sport Steptronic automatic with the newer style electronic shift knob and manual shift mode.
If I were to upgrade to a Sprint Booster, does anybody know how it would affect this situation? I know the DRIVE mode would be improved but does that mean the SPORT mode would become too responsive? Last thing I want is an ON/OFF switch at the slightest touch of the pedal

The SB increases responsiveness/sensitivity in any mode. You just have to modulate the throttle a little easier in Sport. You'll love it.

I have a 550 with Step. The SB makes my thottle jumpy but manageable. I recently drove a fellow member's 550 with SAT and SB. I did not like the throttle performance with the Sport button engaged. I found is virtually impossible to modulate and it was hard not to buck the car when I mashed the throttle. It was fine without the Sport button engaged. With the Sport button engaged, the throttle felt like an on/off switch -- much more jumpy than my Step on DS.

Given the SB makes Sport (DS) mode a little jumpy, in your opinion do you think the product was worth the purchase? Sounds like the SB would make the regular drive mode (D) the same as sport mode (DS) is without it. And it would make sport mode (DS) too jumpy?

That's perfect input, thanks. I don't have the SAT option just standard new-design shifter identical to your setup.

Were I first getting SB today, I'd get version 2 which is adjustable and can be shut off. Member brabusw209amg has been organizing group buys for them.

It is a little jumpy at first, but once you get used to driving with it you will love it; even more so in DS. My GF barely drives my car, but when she does she's fine and comments on how power the car is. Mind you, she doesn't drive in DS. With that being said, I like the ability to be able to pick the mode the SB is in so I've picked up the new model, just waiting to get it now. If the new SB V2 never came out; I would remain just as happy with the V1. It's a must have for our E60's IMO.
