Sports Package for 530i
#1
I'm planning on getting a 2007 530i for my wife. Since I will eventually inherit the car, I was thinking of getting the Sports Package with it. So I have a couple of questions for the pros here:
Sorry for these noob questions. Thanks in advance!
- Is the suspension upgrade worth it? On our current cars my wife and I both have aftermarket suspension set ups that result in zero body roll. I'm a little wary of OEM suspension upgrades - they're often a lot of $$$ without much of a performance improvement.
- How heavy are the 18" wheels? For the amount BMW is charging for them, I could get light weight Volks or WorkEmotions or OZ rims for a lot cheaper.
Sorry for these noob questions. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. IMHO, the Sport package for the 07 is worth every cent! You get ARS, comfort seats, shadowline trim, 18" wheels, and much more. I love it on my car. Car is virtually flat when driven agressively and is not bone jarring or uncomfortable.

Yeah, Car and Driver said the 530i Sport they tested was the flattest car they had ever tested. ARS is so good at killing roll, they have to artificially add it back in just so you'll know when the car is going to break loose. The car tested .90g on the skidpad. The non-sport is .82g on a skidpad. The sport gives you 18" wheels, and lowers the car. For '07, you also get the sports steering wheel and comfort seats.

I too will never have another BMW without it. I ordered my 2000 E39 528 without the sport package and regretted it every day until I traded it in for my 545 (with sport package). The sport package makes BMW completely different cars from those without.

I picked up my 2006 530i without Sport Package two weeks ago. The car does have a bit of body roll, but I was scared off by the many complaints about the run flats and I need all season tires for winter driving. Also, the Sport Package did not include the Comfort seats in 2006.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm not unduly concerned about a harsh ride - I have a racing suspension on my daily driver and have convinced my wife that its normal for high performance cars :-)
So I take it the Sports Package is worth it. On to the next question - Are you guys running run flats or regular tires?

Is the ride very firm over road imperfections with the sports packge?
