I'm looking to relocate Houston, TX. I have Canadian version 530xi 2006, and looking to see if I can convert (and/or) add MPH gauge on the speedometer faceplate? Rest I can change w/ iDrive without any problems.

Any suggestions?

Not sure if any reprogramming needs to happen to the car.

Different instrument panel here - ~$600:
http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E6...ument_cluster/

Drill down on the links and you can find all the possible donors. Looks like 525 N52 from July 2004 up to some N54's in 2008. Might be able to find one in a salvage yard for less.

Also, see a bunch on eBay. Search for "62 10 9 194 887" on eBay. Looks like $250-$300 for a used one.

But, you really need to understand the reprogramming or not part for the car.

Thank you for your detailed reply.
I looked few on eBay but couldn't find exactly fits for mine 2006 530xi. I'll keep searching.
When you're saying to understand the reprogramming? what that mean. With iDrive I can switch it to MPH except gauge displays. I believe once I installed this, and plugin the cable, there shouldn't be anything else required in terms of programming? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks again for your help.

What I'm saying about programming is that I don't know if you can just plug in the MPH instrument panel and then have it all work. It would make sense that it just works, but you never know what stuff is going on in all the various programmable modules in a car, much less a BMW. I just don't know.

Plus, there may be more stuff that wants to be reprogrammed for US operation instead of Canada operation. I doubt it changes how the car drives, but the US dealer may be clueless if you need service that entails hooking up the BMW computer - especially one in Texas versus on near on either side of the US/Canada border that may see this from time to time.

Finding parts, go to this web site:
http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E6...ument_cluster/

You can see the various part numbers that have been in use over the years for instrument panels, both the MPH and KM/H.

I have a June 2005 build 2006 530xi with manual transmission. Any of these parts, including the obsoleted ones should work. So, you have the part number to search.

In order to search by model, click on the part number on that web page. That gets you to a reverse lookup of the part number by model and year. Keep clicking until you see the "with date" link. Click some more and you can see all the models and years that used this part number. That way, if someone tells you the car the dash was lifted from, you can cross reference it easily.
