Speed of iDrive; is mine running slowly?
#1
Hi,
I've just switched from a 530d that iDrive with no sat nav to a 535d that has iDrive with professional sat nav.
In my old 530d, switching between entertainment, climate, communication etc would happen instantly. With my 535d, it seems to freeze for a few seconds and then changes.
Also, when I get in the car and first turn on it will take a good 10 seconds for the PDC to come up on the screen (I just get the BMW logo on the screen) even though I can hear the beeps to tell me I am close to another car. With the 530d, the PDC came on the screen instantly when I turned the car on.
Is the slow behaviour normal for iDrive with sat nav or is there a problem with my iDrive?
Thanks,
G

Unfortunately... the... speed... of... iDrive... on... professional... nav... is... deadly... slow...
On the other hand the 535d is much faster!
Nothing you can do about it, I am afraid.
FWIW - the PDC works the same way on my car.

Unfortunately, this is normal for cars with CCC.

This is one of my biggest complaints my BMW. The iDrive with Nav is painfully slow. I cannot understand why they do not upgrade the speed of the processor or add more memory. They make a great car to drive, but you have to very slow and patient with the iDrive. I just wish it was much more responsive...

I thought I had read somewhere that the bottleneck in CCC equipped cars wasn't the speed of the processor but the limited bandwidth available through the MOST bus. If that's right, the problem is more the availability of data than the CCC's ability to process it. Anyone know more about this?

I am fairly certain we haven't come close to hitting the limit of MOST bus bandwidth yet.
