Does anyone else find it strange and/or interesting that M-B decided to completely blow off the valet concept for locking the trunk on the new S-Class cars in the USA? You can lock the glove box with the metal key but, even though there's a keyhole, you can't lock the trunk with it -- you can only open it.

It's probably a lawyer thing but if you ask me, it's stupid...

Yes - you can lock glove box & boot with key then hand remote (without key) to valet/dealer/tyre fitter/etc
I have a Start/Stop button and fob remote key as pictured above and I'm totally confused.

If the sole purpose of the removable metal key is to lock/unlock the boot and glovebox then what is the purpose of the plastic key?

some of my frends use the plastic key for resturant, hotel parking, give the plastic key and they can not get into the boot or the glovebox.
I know there is no such thing in UK apart from some Hotels in London.

Which is the exact OPPOSITE of what others have said above.

Remember I'm talking about a remote control fob-type key with the Stop/Start button.

See why I'm confused?

Did you read my post? the purpose of the plastic key is to keep in your wallet / purse and if you lose the key fob you can insert the plastic key into the dummy key fob located inside your glove box and still be able to start your car. I even showed a picture of how you do it. Picture 2 post #5

Not really very smart (of your friends), wearing the emergency plastic key out like that for a purpose for which it's not intended.

Besides, I'm not sure if it has any limitations on use like opening the trunk etc.

But again, it's not a VALET KEY anyway.

I don't understand why this is so difficult for people to comprehend. But thank you for the photo so we can show the great unwashed what the purpose of the key is.

I read it but I'm probably more of a kinesthenic learner.

The bit I didn't absorb was the dummy fob in the glove box. I must look for it.
