so those with 19" alloys will have the same space saving spare as 17" or 18" rims. How will it fit? Am I missing something?

Circumference of 245/40x18 = 2052.09 mm

Circumference of 245/45x17 = 2049.26 mm

Circumference of 135/80x17 = 2035.45mm (According to my dodgy maths)

A difference of less than 1%, well within the limits of safety.

Probably no more than the difference in circumference of one tyre being under-inflated by a couple of pounds.

So the overall diameter of wheel + tyre is almost the same no matter what wheel size you have on your car.

It is just how much tyre or how much wheel you can see. As wheels tend to look better than tyres we often go for bigger wheeel, shallower tyre options, but the overall size is about the same.

if it were not your speedo would be inaccurate and your brakes degraded.

The wheel radius should be the same no matter even how wide the wheel is!

From OEM 16" to 19" - to even 20" or 21" bling-blings

The OEM spare is it!
