Thank you for your input. I scheduled an appointment with my coding guy. Hopefully this works.

I had the SOS failure and started reading all the forums for possible solutions. Ran across a post on a 7 series forum about using a fiber optic loop to troubleshoot the MOST bus to isolate a failed component. My symptoms were SOS malfunction error message, no audio from anything including chimes, SAT and AUX grayed out on radio display, and bluetooth was turned off. I had never had the satellite activated, so I never really noticed it, but I had used the AUX input.

I bought the BMW fiber optic loop from the local stealer because I wanted to troubleshoot this weekend. I bypassed the satellite module by disconnecting the connector and inserting the fiber optic loop and everything worked (radio, bluetooth phone, AUX input).

Do you have a part number for the cable? Also how much was it?

I have a 2006 530i

A week ago a coil pack (#2) failed.

I read the codes to determine #2 had failed.

Immediately after reading the code the SOS error came up.

Everything works fine - audio, iDrive, Nav, etc

Error only comes up after the key is inserted, and then it goes away.

Subsequent code read brings up no more error codes

I am going to disconnect the battery for 10-15 mins to see if it goes away

Note: I did find this tidbit on an obscure board. Logic7 System Reboot Anyone hear of this?

Turn on key

at the same time push in the radio volume and CD eject buttons

hold them in until the LCD turns off (don't know to which LCD there is this reference)

wait until LCD is back to the "accept screen"

Fixes all that crazy stuff

If this procedure does not clear the issue then the SAT Radio element is most likely bad and should be bypassed.

For under $10.00 on eBay thee s a male and female MOST connector available (both included).

Use it to by-pass SAT radio element (usually found under the system amplifier in the trunk) and which is usually the problem source.

See item # 312371003183 on eBay (as of 3/19/2019) or try the link below

Default Possible fix

I had this problem on my 530i after adding a new SMG module.I fixed this by realigning the car VIN and updating the SMG software using WINfpt.

@gcalo Did you find a fix? My 08 535i sport has the SOS Call Malfunction error but everything works fine.

No not yet no time

Replaced radiator and serpentine belt 2 weeks ago and then front control arms recently

I am going to try the electronic reset that I had found to see if that works

Very weird situation from what others have mentioned. Everything works

I did get the optical bypass units as listed but not sure my car has satellite module

It does have the Logic7 system though

That SOS message is very annoying
