Started my 2005 525d this evening and I'm getting "SOS Call System Failure" on the i-Drive. Bluetooth also seems to be disabled and I can't enable it.

Could anyone shed any light on the likely cause of this?

I've had a look on Google and from other discussions it seems like it could be the Telematics Control Unit at fault. I'm not sure I really want to know, but can anyone tell me how much it would cost me to get this replaced if it is to blame?

Cheers.

Hi

You should check the MOST loop (fiber optic loop) between your head unit, cd changer etc. is connected properly. I had a similar issue when installing a dension 500 in my car (requires you to add it on to the fiber optic loop).

I just got this too. Sure enough I just unplugged the Dension Gateway 500.... on another note...

Where can I get the iPod software programming done in Washington DC?

Some dealers won't touch it when I mention the word.... 'Dension'

You don't have to tell them you have the Dension unit; just tell them you want MP3s enabled in the computer. When you do, you will be able to read MP3s off of a regular CD also.

So MP3's enabled will work and that's it? so when I plug the Dension will the iPod option show up where the aux input is now?

Before throwing money away to get a new TCU, you should try disconnect the battery and let the system do a hard reset. Then reconnect it and see if everything comes back on line. Also, you might be able to find a used one on eBay and replace the unit DIY. GL

The error message went away after I left the car for about 12 hours. Seems like once the system went to sleep it forgot about it

Thanks guys.

Yep. Thats all I had my dealer do. I went in with a CD loaded with MP3s to test. Then I drove home and plugged in my iPod adaptor and it picked it right up. I've got the BMW adaptor, but it shouldn't make a difference.

I have a similar issue in my 2005 545i - My bluetooth worked fine, but I could not make a call to BMW Assist. Took it to the dealer and he said that the TCU was fried. They ordered one and installed it today. Low and behold, the BMW Assist works great, but now there is not bluetooth! You cant even select it to pair the phonw. Has anyone seen this???

Maybe the TCU unit was not coded to enable bluetooth. Probably a dealer visit.
