Hi all

I am new here and hope some can help me.

I am looking for a new, used, car and a 545 or a first model 550 touring is the dream.

Are there some things I need to look out for when buying one?

Any problems with the automatic or engine?

Thanks for helping me

to 5series.net. I am not aware of any big time issues with the 550's engine or with the Steptronic (such as the widespead problems with the 535 engine's high pressure fuel pump).

Yes the 545/550's powertrain is proven. Has been in use for a while. The beauty is that the engine has large displacement and is not stressed at all. BMW could have gotten another 40-50 bhp out of that engine if it amped up the tuning IMHO.

oh please you are sure not going to get a honest answer here now. If you have a question regarding modifications or 20 inch rims all the vendors are going to try to sell one product.

Some of the problems thats i had with my 545i are the infamous gear box slamming, i had a window motor go out, AC smell, "increased emission"fault, and a thermostat. but thats why we have warranty

Airbag seat mat on some cars. Some got theirs on recall, my car was done on good will because it wasn't in the recall.
Again, the thermostat, but easy to replace and cheap too. Coolant system in general isn't that good. But nothing is expensive on it though.
Tranny Slam, I feltt it when I did the California stop (rolling though stop signs), the torque converter disengauges at the stop sign, then you get on the gas and then in reengauges and then slams you. I have the most update programing right now and I haven't felt it. Just depends on how you drive though.

Its not something that kills the car. Just annoying.

Other then that its a super solid car.
