Software update - looking for advice
#1
My 2005 525i is going in for service tomorrow. Having window anti-trap errors and the door seals are supposed to be replaced to stop the creaking.
It seems that several forum members are able to get software updates for their iDrive. How do you get the dealer to do this?
When I was in for scheduled maintenence, I had a 2006 loaner. The iDrive bluetooth phonebook display had a "(W)" and "(H)" for work and home numbers next to each entry. This alone makes a software upgrade desirable to me. When I questioned the dealer, he said that was a "2006 feature" not available on my 2005 car. Seems like they would like to avoid doing a software update.
Any tips or tricks to get an update?

That comment from your dealer sounds funny, ' a 2006' feature. It's gotta be just software, so it must be part of the iDrive updates. It might also be part of the way you set up your phone numbers in your phone. Or a combo of both.
Did it show up when a phone was paired with the loaner?

It is defnitely part of the software upgrade. I only get names and number in my '05:
john smith 800-555-1212
john smith 800-555-3344
john smith 800-555-9876
When I paired my phone to the '06 loaner, it displayed:
john smith 800-555-1212 (H)
john smith 800-555-3344 (W)
john smith 800-555-9876 (F)
My computer has my contacts with Home, Work, Fax, Mobile, etc. All the phone numbers sync to the phone, and thus to the car. My '05 does not give any indication which is which phone number. I went nuts when I saw the display on the '06 loaner. Small feature, but very useful to me. I just need to figure out how to convine the dealer to give me a sw update.
Still looking for ideas.

when you use sony ericsson phones it works like that. But when using the nokia 6230i it does not. I have paired the SE W810i and the Nokia 6230i, so far the performance of the SE W810i is better and more clear for some reason.
