Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I just recently purchased a 04 525 and I really love it. I have never owned a BMW before and I'm really proud of my new car. My question is my friend has been telling me about the different software updates available for the car, my car looks like it has the original software. How can I tell the version of the software installed? Also, what should I say to the dealer to get my software updated? My friend said there are certain electronic issue that can be pointed out to the dealer to get a free update. I recently has a front passenger window warning/error on the front dash, would this qualify for an upgrade?? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi and aboard.

If your car never got an update you still have the original software running on it.

What options do you have and were are you from?
If you're in the US and have nav, tell the dealer your CD player keeps playing/spinning after you leave the car. When you come back, the CD is a couple tracks further...
If you search the forum you will find the fix-lists. Then you know what error is supposed to be fixed with which software release(CIP or PROGMAN).

I just bought the car from a private party so I do not know about the software situation. I am in the US and I do not have nav.

Before the update, I was able to go into the hidden menu to foind out what CIP version it was. (By pressing the info menu for 10 sec, and doing some left right turns on the idrive button)

Now, there are 3 sub menus in the i menu. > (Display Off, Info Menu, Settings) Does anyone know how to get in to the hidden menu on the newer versions?

It didn't change.
The hidden menus are still reachable with the same trick.

BUT: You can NOT see the CIP/PROGMAN version in it.

Hey Silver525 and welcome to the Forum.

I also drive a 525iA and I have the CIP 19.2 and it works good for me.

Your dealer can upgrade your programming if you feel your car
has any software problems.
It will take a few hours.
