Smoking Seats!

2004 5.30i
This morning i turned on my seat heater ...after about 5 min. i started to smell burning plastic -- i looked down to where it seemed like it was coming from and saw smoke coming from the left side of my seat.
When i got out at work i saw a small hole burn starting to form...
i've had the recall doen for a 2004 5.30i for the seat -- but they only changed the passenger seat
has anyone had this happened? had it not been winter and me wearing my big coat i feel like i could have potentially burnt myself...

this happened to me and the dealer fixed it, its a known issue

+1 There have been several posts regarding this problem. Explain it to your dealer and they should take care of you.

My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i - no mods. Pretty basic really. I mean it has tires, windows, and a sweet look, what more could a man want? Honestly, I'd like to improve the sound system mildly, and possibly find a worthy engine mod that would increase my BHP by 100 without giving an arm and a leg for. I don't think it's out there, so I'll stay stock and love driving my 530i.
My car is in the shop right now for this exact problem. Though mine didn't smoke. It however burnt the bacon on my arse!

ha...i've been so busy i got lazy!
i'll run this by the dealer when i can get free from work -- BMW of Arlington has never been very "user-friendly" so hopefully i'll have better luck than Anzafin.

That'ss a pretty serious flaw for obvious reasons. If I had that happen and they tried to not fix it I would be talking to a lawyer to see what sort of recourse there is!

I have the exact same problem and the dealer said it will not fix it unless i pay to be changed. from what you said should i understand that if this is a common issue, it should be resolved by the dealer on complain basis only?

I have this smoking seat on a July 04 production 530i and the dealer is saying there is no recall on it.
Can anyone advise if the recall is for Canadian cars also.
