First smog check on my 04 545i. After half hour of waiting the technician came to tell me that his computer had error communicating with my car  and recommended me to try another shop. Went to the 2nd shop. Same problem, "no response" communicating to OBD II board. My stomach started to hurt as it could be very costly if there was a electrical/computer system problem. The guys there referred me to try his friend's shop down the street. Went there and saw a M3 just got done with the smog check. What a good sign. It turned out to be the smog check computer has to be able to work with OBD II. What a relief.
Not too quick, just about to drive away, all error messages show up: System Malfunction, ABS, steering, dynamic drive, etc... Did the smog check computer damaged the computer system of the vehicle ? Not really, problem was caused by the spinning of the rear wheels only during the smog check. Everything was back to normal after a quarter mile of driving. |
